A frequent question I am asked is where do I find my daughters’ clothes. It can be challenging to dress little girls with so many things to consider: cost, wearability in Alaska, longevity of items, and style. I personally tend to avoid buying them overly bright colors or anything scandalous. You’d be surprised how many mini skirts are on the market for two year-olds! I typically ask myself if I would wear a particular item and go from there. Yes, I am essentially dressing two miniature me’s and do not feel one bit narcissistic about it:) Here are my favorite places to shop for baby and toddler clothes:
Zara: This is my favorite place for trendier or short-lived holiday pieces. The clothes are inexpensive and adorable with just the right amount of childhood fancy. Their current collection is full of my favorite color (a soft mauve) so I stocked up on my latest trip to Seattle. I appreciate how so many of the pieces coordinate within each collection which creates the possibilities of many more outfits. If you happen to order online and cannot try anything on, I recommend going up a size. Waverley is three years-old and typically wears a size 4T, yet at Zara she is a 5.
Noble Carriage: This is my go-to destination for basics and cozy clothes that kiddos can wear again. And again. And again! The quality of the selection is superior therefore the clothes last a long time. I feel better spending the extra money here given that the clothes are organic, so this is where I purchase onesies and lounge attire since we wear that often. My favorite brands at Noble Carriage are Gray Label for the softest material ever, Oeuf for beautiful knits, and Goat Milk for black and white striped everything. If you follow me on Instagram you’ll like see a constant rotation of this union suit, these overalls, and this silly hat. If you sign up for the newsletter you’ll score 20% coupons periodically which is definitely worth it!
Nordstrom: The girl clothing here can be hit or miss but there are a few brands I gravitate towards.
- Tucker and Tate: Is a brand founded by Nordstrom therefore can only be purchased there. I love the modern and fun style it offers without being overtly girly or precious. I feel like girls can really play in these clothes. I stock up on their leggings for Waverley every season and they last well, definitely meriting the $14.00 price tag. Tucker and Tate also makes adorable pajamas, which are Waverley’s most favorite attire, so she wears these a lot. She is still rocking her holiday pajamas from last year and they look great, albeit a little short!
- Peek: Whenever I buy a top with a cute saying or picture on it, it always ends up being Peek. Their clothes bring a lot of fun, bonafide childhood elements into Waverley’s wardrobe.
- Mini Boden: One of my favorite things about Mini Boden is their consistency with size and the sizing being true. I rarely have to order several sizes or exchange; I know exactly what I am getting. I also appreciate their very fun and whimsical take on kids’ clothes, with cheeky animals or secret patterns popping out. A few Mini Boden items each age will do as the clothes last wash after wash. Some of my favorite memories of Waverley’s infancy involve her wearing Mini Boden.
Target: I cannot go into Target without strolling through the kids’ clothing section. I am such a fan of the newest kids’ line there, Cat & Jack. It is perfect for busy toddlers who need several outfit changes a day due to mud/urine/feces/food/everything in the world being found on their clothes. A lot of Target’s options are much too stereotypical for my taste, but I have found great items in the Cat & Jack line as well as the classic Oshkosh. Waverley wears a lot of Oshkosh to school and I don’t mind when it comes home stained with paint. I am also dying over this adorable leather bomber, which would be cute for boys or girls.
When I have something specific in mind, I turn to these favorites:
- Leotards: Xaria & Co
- Pajamas: Hanna Andersson
- Boots: Sorel for winter and Hunter for spring/fall
- Headbands: VONBON or June and January
- Hair bows: Forever 21 (Believe it or not! This was a great tip from my friend who has two little gals as well)
- Denim and other classics: Gap Kids
- Contemporary design and typography: Whistle & Flute Clothing
Where do you shop for your kiddos? I’d love to know!
