We have a lot of potty training going on in our house right now. We are attempting to potty train our new puppy, Howie, while simultaneously teaching Waverley to use the toilet. As you can imagine, this equates to a lot of accidents and messes and will inevitably require some very deep carpet cleaning in the near future! The cutest part of Waverley’s potty training thus far is that she asks for “help” (i.e., a hug) when pooping, as if she needs the extra assistance to really bear down and take care of business. It’s one of the few times she prefers her mama to her dada and I know it will be a trait I’ll always cherish when she’s grown up.
Waverley’s potty training journey is slow-going and we are yet again reminded that she has and always will do things in her own sweet, albeit pokey, time. (You may recall she crawled at 11 months and walked at 18 months and I was trying desperately to be her mother and not her OT!) While Nate and I are doing our best to set her up for success and encourage her potty training skills (she loves putting stickers on her super cute potty training chart), we are trying to find a happy balance between our own wishes, her developmental needs, and her current skills. To promote her interest in using the potty, we read to her often from her favorite board books for potty training. If you’re already in the throes or preparing for potty training, here are the best board books for potty training. I guarantee they’ll help excite your little one to use the big potty and the catchy tunes/one-liners will definitely get stuck in your head for all of eternity.
