Oregon can get a bad rap for gray, dreary winters and lots of rain. However, during the summer, Oregon is definitely one of the best places. On Earth. Ever! My stay over the past 2+ weeks was beyond blissful. It did not rain a drop, only fluctuating from warm summer days to hot summer days. It is neither too humid nor too dry. There is so much to do no matter what your interests are! Waverley spent her time at the pool, boating, and playing past her bedtime with her cousins. I, on the other hand, spent most of the time in bed, on the couch, or hazily chasing Waverley around in a post-op haze while trying to make the most of my visit.
The first night I was there, my cousin showed up at my sister’s house equipped with the fixings for pierogi. Like, “Lesleigh is in town– we must cook!” Whenever there is an event, whether it is great or potentially sad, our family always rises to the occasion with food, preferably old Polish family recipes! I am not the family pierogi expert but got to learn from the best. I am excited to make some when I am home and will be sure to share the how-to’s!
Fortunately Nate was able to come down for a few days for my surgery. Waverley was so happy to see her dad!
No visit to Oregon is complete without a trip to the coast. It was a drizzly, overcast day but we had fun staying cozy inside and chatting.
By the end of the trip I began to feel better and was able to spend some time out in Portland with friends. Few things make me happier than walking to dinner, ice cream, shops, and coffee. (Um apparently just anything that involves food?) I was reminded how truly wonderful and beautiful Portland is. Especially during the summer. Is there anything better? Until next time, sweet Portland.
