Bonjour! I hope you are having a fabulous week. I am sad and happy to show you the last pictures from our time in Paris. Don’t worry though, there’s still some goodies from Southern France coming up next:) Our final two days in Paris (see the first here) went by in a blur. We walked, walked, and walked all over as we searched for epic meals and beautiful architecture. We settled into a groove of long, relaxing meals sans a toddler throwing food everywhere and stealing food off of my plate. (Why is it only my plate she wants?) We truly appreciated this luxury like we never did prior to Waverley’s arrival. We wanted to take full advantage of her absence and ensure we ate at amazing restaurants!
We made our way to the Marché des Enfants-Rouges, which is the oldest covered market in Paris. It was originally built in 1612! I just loved wandering the stands of fresh fruit, vegetables, and homemade delicacies while envisioning what it was like 400 years ago. We had lunch there at a tiny little restauarant attached to the market, L’Estaminet des enfants rouges. You guys, it was one of the most incredible lunches Of. My. Life. The ingredients were so fresh, flavorful, and wonderfully paired! Nate and I still reminisce about this amazing lunch. We always try to each get something different off of the menu so we can share and taste everything. Nate had a delicious beef tartar and I had a magical vegetable tartine.
The highlight of this trip, for me, was taking a pastry class! I had such a blast and wish I could take a week or a month of cooking classes in Paris. Nate wanted little to do with a pastry class and opted to explore on his own. The pasty class was super intense and I learned several different pastries and fillings. I gleaned onto the instructor like a bonafide brown noser, attempting to soak in every ounce of his pasty knowledge. I am really excited to make some of these goodies to show you! I’ve already been incorporating many of the tips I learned into my every day baking.
During my pastry class, Nate spent his time at the Museum of Hunting and Nature (naturally) and we reconvened for dinner. He also found a little Parisian fly fishing shop to visit! Of course! It was perfect to spend a little time solo doing something we were both interested in. For dinner we went to Ellsworth which we decided ranks in the top three of our best meals ever. Ever! If you find yourself in Paris, please go there. I have absolutely no pictures of it because 1) it is a tiny hole in the wall that does not suggest anything grandiose, and 2) I didn’t want to ruin our vibe and get kicked out for pulling out my camera. Act cool!
On our last day our feet were so beaten up (hence the sneakers + leather jacket look), we decided to do something really touristy and take a boat tour. It was actually quite nice and relaxing! It was such a cool vantage point to see the city from the water. Plus, the temperature was really creeping up there so being on the water felt perfect. We had a great lunch at Rose Bakery, where we enjoyed huge lattes served in a bowl. Then it was au revoir to Paris as we boarded a plane to Nice!
