I suffer from a lifelong affliction in which I really don’t like hair around my face. When I style my hair in such a way it is often short-lived, as I am picking, pulling, and tucking at it constantly. I blame this on my former competitive swimming self and the requirement to have slicked back hair tucked neatly into a tight swim cap. I feel tired always wearing it up, yet I know myself better than to wear it down too often with a toddler in tow. Enter: the half-up/half-down phenomenon that ran rampant in the 90’s. Is it back? Is it cute again? I don’t know but I do know I feel like this is absolutely the best of every world because I get to wear my hair down in loose waves, my hair is out of my face, and I get to rock my most favorite top knot bun. Plus, it’s a great combination for summer and that pesky heat (which I hear is an issue in the lower 48?). Will you try it? Please let me know!
I think this style works best for second to third day hair. Squeaky clean hair just doesn’t stick or fall right (at least for mine!). To start, gather the top 1/3 of hair in a clear elastic. Then, twist your pony around the hair elastic pinning as you go.After top knot is secured, fluff it up to provide a little extra oomph by pulling from the center in an outwards direction. Pin any stray strands underneath the bun.Spritz with hair spray to set everything in place. I love Oribe Superfine Strong Hair Spray.I went over a few pieces with a curling iron for extra waves, since I hadn’t curled it that day.
PS How to achieve long bob loose waves.
