It’s difficult to fathom Sunday will be my second Mother’s Day to celebrate as a mother. Last year I was so new to motherhood I didn’t know how I should spend the day or how to act. I felt like an imposter to the day. I was still trying the motherhood role out and making many necessary adjustments. My uneasiness in motherhood left me feeling that I was not truly deserving of celebrating the day as a mother.

Things are different this year.

This year, I can feel the sacrifices I’ve made as a mother in my core. (Literally and figuratively; I can still feel the aftermath of giving birth to a 10.7 pound baby in my untoned core.) I can see the baby I’ve been raising growing into a little person. She’s learning manners, how to play, and the art of a killer glare. I feel the weight of responsibility of raising her to adulthood and the pressure that entails. I am reminded multiple times a day that I am her mother, with every “Hi, Mama!”, “Oh, Mama…”, “MAMAAAA!”, or my favorite “Silly, Mama”. This year there is no escaping that I am, indeed, a bonafide mama.

So I am very much looking forward to Mother’s Day. I am especially excited to spend the weekend with my family in Oregon, surrounded by other fabulous mothers (my sister and sister-in-law) for a lovely Mother’s Day celebration. I hope to keep the day completely devoid of cooking, cleaning, and most childrearing tasks whilst basking in the glory of spring sun. I also wouldn’t mind any of these endearing extras, which I think could genuinely make most mothers smile. Happy Mother’s Day!
