Ever since I moved to Alaska, or had a baby (who can tell, they happened simultaneously), I’ve become somewhat of a serious homebody. Aside from errands, the gym, or weekend activities with the family, I actually spend quite a bit of time at home. There’s not exactly loads of great places to go here. One of my closest friends just about died when she heard it’s not uncommon for me to stay home at least two days in the week. She is up and out of the house by 8:00am with her two little ones in tow every day. Every day! I am a slave to Waverley’s long, luxurious naps which make fun outings difficult to achieve. So, against my better judgement, I am showing you how I spend my time on a typical day living the life as a stay at home mama.
7:00am: Wake-up! Nate gets ready for work and I prepare for Waverley to get up. Then we all have breakfast together (I know, it’s precious).
8:15am: Nate leaves for work usually as I am finishing my breakfast and cleaning the kitchen. Then, it’s playtime (and coffee time) for Waverley and I! It is one of my favorite times of the day.
She is still working on her crawling, so we spend lots of time playing on the floor.
9:00am: It’s time to get ready for her first nap. Our pre-nap ritual includes several stories, a little breast feeding, and down she goes.
9:30am-11:30am: As soon as Waverley is down I change into my workout clothes and get ready for torture from Jillian. She sure is a brat, but she knows how to get my rear in gear. And when I can’t make it to the gym, these DVDs are lifesavers!
After I regain my composure and before Waverley wakes up, I make a giant smoothie to share. I like to have some ready for Nate when he gets home from work, otherwise he’ll automatically head for chips. (If you’re wondering, yes…I am a great wife.)
12:00pm: After I get Waverley up and change her it is time for lunch. We are starting to wean off of breastfeeding so she is always famished for food with no fresh milk wake-up call. She usually eats some random combination of leftovers (like this salmon from our salmon tacos), fruit, and the girl loves cheese. It is her favorite. (Obviously, cheese is delicious.)
1:00-2:30pm: This is when we run our errands, however, if we’re staying home we’ll use this time to take Charlie for a walk, play, or if I’m making a rather complicated dinner I may start now. Or, if I’m honest, sometimes she plays on the floor while I work on the coach. Gasp!
2:30-3:00pm: Nap time again, if you can believe it! It is again time for a diaper change, stories, breastfeeding, and rest. Bless this girl.
3:00-5:00pm: Waverley naps and I buzz around the house taking care of what seems like everything and nothing: answering and sending emails, doing laundry, working on projects (like addressing these), or catching up with friends/family. This is also when I work on pearls on a string. As soon as she wakes up I am shocked at how busy I felt, yet nothing completed seemed incredibly tangible. Is this the plight of staying at home?
5:00-6:00pm: Prep for dinner. On this particular night I made lobster pasta. (Seriously we eat seafood a lot.) Nate usually gets home around 5:30pm, in time to play with Waverley for a few minutes before dinner.
6:00pm: Dinner time! One of my other favorite times of day, because we are all eating, relaxed, and together.
6:45pm: If it’s not too rainy or windy we like to go on a family walk around the neighborhood. It’s lovely.
7:00-7:30pm: Waverley’s bath time. Bath time is her and Nate’s sweet time together, so I usually do other really glamorous things (like clean the kitchen and make coffee for the morning). Then I’ll join when I’m done, but I love that Nate gets one-on-one time with her.
7:30-8:00pm: We both get Waverley ready for bed and then I give one last long feeding. She’s in the crib by 8:00 and we rejoice!
8:00-10:00pm: Ahhh. This is when Nate and I enjoy each other’s company and watch a movie, drink a glass of wine, talk, and I finish working on pearls on a string.
10:00-11:00pm: Shut down time. We get ready for bed, read, and say goodnight…ready to do it all again tomorrow!
