One of my favorite aspects of membership in Martha Stewart’s Circle of Bloggers is being privy to lovely ideas and programs. I recently received an email encouraging application to the American Made Program, which I’ve always enjoyed reading about in Martha Stewart Living. The ideas and creations that these folks come up with are utterly inspiring! Their tales of taking an idea and turning it into a successful business they love seems magical to risk-avoiders like myself. My favorites from 2013’s winners are Woodberry Kitchen in Baltimore, Maryland and Spoonflower for fabric inspiration. Since I am not a creator of tangible products, therefore not one to apply myself, I wanted to share this program with all of you.
The 2014 awards are underway and accepting applications for just two more weeks. If you are a talented American maker then I implore you to apply! This is your chance to be recognized as one of ten 2014 Martha Stewart American Made Award Winners. Martha, her panel of judges, and the American Made community are selecting the next generation of creative entrepreneurs. Prizes include a trip for two to New York City, $10,000 to grow your business, and much more! Nominate yourself by August 29th, 2014! If you know of someone who is an American maker then be sure to share this with them. (I am looking at you, SLAB Soap!)
I appreciate that local craftsmanship, artisanal creators, and unique creations are celebrated. Here is a round-up of more of my favorites from the Martha Stewart American Made Market:
These gold brushed vases
This decal (which is in Waverley’s room!)
These copper and walnut chopsticks
This soft sculpture matryoshka doll
These tiny cube 14k gold stud earrings
This calligraphy airmail stamp
This gold foil print of glasses (perfect for Nate’s office)
This jadeite cake plate
This gorgeous throw blanket
Peruse the market for a beautiful collection of American products and be sure to share this opportunity with an American maker (or nominate yourself!). Shop local!
