What’s a girl to do when a consistent, loving ten-year relationship is suddenly ripped out from under her? When Estée Lauder discontinued my beloved tinted moisturizer not too long ago, I felt totally abandoned. Lost. I had worn this daily since college and couldn’t imagine my life without it. It magically dispersed the perfect amount of coverage for a not-too-makeupy look and left skin moisturized and oil-free. Seriously, it was skin care/makeup perfection. So, after I begged the sales gal at Nordstrom to get real and quit joking with me (poor thing had the misfortune of bearing the discontinuation news) I set out to trial several different products. Of course I had to search online first for any leftovers yet sadly discovered there are just a few remaining bottles for $160.00. Devastation. I visited every makeup counter in the store and decided to try three tinted moisturizer favorites. (I’ll wear actual foundation on weekends, but for an every day product I prefer tinted moisturizer.) Although I’ll always miss my cherished Estée Lauder DayWear Sheer Tint Release Moisturizer, I did manage to find one that appears to be up for the job.
The sales gal naturally went with Estée Lauder’s newest version, the DayWear Anti-Oxidant BB Creme which is a bit heavier and offers more coverage than I care for.
I’m a little surprised I didn’t like La Mer’s Fluid Tint more. I was convinced it would by luxurious yet simple. It turned out to be much too oily for my skin and clogged my already giant pores right up. Gross. The winner: I realize it’s pretty much a cult favorite and nothing new, but I definitely preferred Laura Mercier’s Tinted Moisturizer to the others for its light weight and minimal coverage. Although, it’s easy to increase the coverage without looking too done. Perhaps this is the reason I’ve been getting compliments on my skin lately? Maybe. You try it, and let me know.
But, like a little kid who thinks their divorced parents might get back together I am not giving up hope, Estée Lauder, that you’ll bring back my true love and we’ll be reunited once again.

Any recommendations on sun screen for the face? I use bare minerals tinted moisturizer with SPF of 20, but need advice on a good sunscreen. Help in Arizona.

Missing my Day Wear Sheer Tint Release too! I’ve been told at the Macy’s counter and on the EL website that it’s coming back – no one is willing to give a date though. Heard its being reformulated to a higher SPF. Hope that doesn’t ruin the feel/texture. Thanks for posting your recommendations – will give #1 a try!

I too share your love of the Day Wear Sheer Tint Release from Estée Lauder. I seem to love products that get discontinued. I still don’t understand why they discontinued it as I understand that it was pretty popular. Thanks for the testing. I will try the Mercier product as I want something as close to the Sheer Tint Release that I can get. Estee Lauder has lost yet another customer.

I ditto all of the above. I will not use the last of my bottle because I can’t bear to think, I can’t get more. I have tried everything by Clinique and EL and it all feels heavy. I am only using concealer and powder blush at the time.

Hi – I too understand and feel your loss. The EL sheer tint release is the best thing that has happened to my skin care routine. Now, I see this on the EL website – is this the new reformulated Day Wear brought back? Please say yes!

No the one above is the replacement they brought out sometime ago for the original one i loved, but it is not the same and I don’t like it. Much more like a bb cream/light foundation. The original would instantly give a lovely tanned colour and the texture was much nicer, more like a moisturiser with a lovely colour. Please bring it back Estée Lauder, I have tried numerous other cremes but non are the same. I still have a tiny bit left in one bottle which I am eek ing out but when that’s gone I’ll be gutted. 🙁

We still have it here in Australia!

Count me in with all the others. I have wasted so much money looking for a replacement. Nothing has come close. I am going to try the laura mercier. Really upset with Estee Lauder
Kim says
It looks to be available on Amazon. According to comments, it’s the real deal!

I was at the Estee Lauder Counter today (16July2014) in downtown Toronto (Canada) and I was also complaining about the beloved tinted moisturizer being discontinued. Much to my amazement the Sales Lady told me that Estee Lauder brought the product back, due to customer complaints. I ordered one and will get it next month. I checked the Estee Lauder website, the product is not there yet. Maybe they have not had a chance to update their website. But I thought I’d let you know that the product is back and you can purchase it once again. So no more tears my friend.
Cheers
