You guys, I am truly blown away from all of the love and outpouring of support I received after sharing this post. I can hardly convey how grateful I am for every kind word and message of support. That is what keeps me going! Thank you! I was really afraid to post it as it had been written for about two months but ultimately decided to when I received a few less-than nice comments regarding an Instagram story of me wearing workout clothes to the dentist (shocker– I was going to the gym afterwards.) There are always naysayers, whether it is that I portray life as “too perfect” or that my “kids deserve more than an unthankful mother” and I grew tired of the dichotomous feedback. I’ve realized it is difficult for mothers to do anything right in the eyes of others and this is especially true in the age of social media. My sweet neighbor reminded me all mothers feel this way and it’s the little things that make days seem better when we’re in the trenches raising littles.
In celebration of that concept, I went out last night for a mama’s night out. It was so refreshing to get dressed without fear of grubby hands staining my top or worrying about easy access to breastfeeding. These things sound so basic! (Also does not mean I don’t love my baby, mmkay?) The coordination to get a few ladies out of the house simultaneously is slightly out of control yet we made it via several incredibly long text chains, 7 husbands holding down the forts, 1 date change, and 17 children tucked cozily in their beds. It was a fabulous reminder that sometimes to make the most out of motherhood a mama just needs a night out. But please don’t call us mommies.
