About seven weeks ago when I was newly pregnant and just beginning the awful stage of nausea, exhaustion, and general hatred of life, my dear brother-in-law innocently asked how long I had until my second trimester. I literally started crying because it seemed so far away. It was an unattainable date that toyed with my emotions and dangled like a teasing carrot in front of me, with the promise of more energy and the ability to consume food other than saltine crackers. I remembered the second trimester euphoria when I was pregnant with Waverley and I wanted it that very second. Now I cannot believe my second trimester is here. Seriously. The weeks were slow and painful yet now they are picking up speed and I am reminded how fleeting this phase truly is. Since this is most likely my last pregnancy, I am trying to really savor it and enjoy the feeling of growing a new life. I hope you also find something to savor this weekend, too!
Waverley’s mood swings have been extra dramatic in the past two weeks. I am not sure if its because she is growing into her two year-old self, has been sick on and off with colds, or is just mad about this baby we keep talking about. Whatever the reason, her stark black and white mood changes are enough to take even the most patient person’s sanity away in a hot second. We are really looking forward to the surprises she has for us this weekend. Here is what she is mad about right now:
- “I want Pana (her very special BFF lovey)!” She is handed Pana. She throws Pana. “I DON’T WANT HER!!”… “I want Pana!” And repeat.
- She refuses to wear her coat outside and then cries because it is cold.
- Her pajama top and bottom must match.
- She doesn’t want those pajamas!
- She wanted to listen to “The Bare Necessities” and then burst into tears when the song came on.
- She will not drink out of a cup with a lid or water bottle. She insists on drinking out of a lidless cup and then promptly dumps out her water.
- She cried when her dad was on the bed that she wanted to get on.
- She cried because she had the “wrong” color of PlayDough.
- “I don’t want my dinner! I want a snack!” (As she throws her bowl across the counter in a dramatic display of toddlerhood.)
- She wanted a shower. No, a bath. No, a shower. A BATH. Why can’t you get it right?
- If we watch a movie she requests a different movie approximately every 3 minutes because she “doesn’t like this one.”
- We had a 20 minute standoff of stubbornness regarding who was to clean up the markers.
- It was time to get dressed. It was time to put on pajamas.
Life with a two year-old! Enjoy the weekend!
