It’s already been over a week since we’ve been back from Hawaii and my tropical getaway high is slowly wearing off. We had a fabulous trip, one of the best ever, and when I came home to peruse my pictures I realized I had taken barely any. I couldn’t help but wonder if being present in the moments– rather than behind the camera, which is my typical MO– contributed to my sense of satisfaction with the trip. I certainly felt more relaxed and enjoyed our time rather than stressing about capturing the perfect image (although, I do feel like the one above is pretty close to perfection!) and planning endless activities and adventures. Rather than seek out hikes and magical waterfall experiences like last year, we simply were. When Waverley napped we relaxed by the pool and beach, caught up on some self-indulgent reading, and enjoyed the warm weather. For the first time in my life, I actually felt relaxed on a vacation.
This is the theme of My Happiness Project for the week, to enjoy moments with family rather than perpetually attempting to take the perfect image, whether it’s for social media or just to have. Every one of these pictures reminds me to slow down, take in this phase of our life, and be grateful for all that we have. Happy Friday and I hope have a relaxing, enjoyable weekend with those you love!
