My home is not dripping with do-it-yourself projects. I fall somewhere in the middle of not being afraid of crafts yet not a bonafide DIY goddess. So when the opportunity presented itself to create a craft as part of Martha Stewart’s Circle of Bloggers, I was a little hesitant. Okay…I was terrified! I mean, this is Martha Stewart. Yet when the package of supplies arrived I was pleasantly surprised with how easy and basic they were. You probably have most of these items needed to make this adorable DIY apple print lunchbag already in your house!
Materials
Apple
Knife
Paintbrush
Martha Stewart Crafts multi-surface craft Paint
Markers (optional)
Canvas or brown paper lunch bag
Steps
1. Cut an apple in half from the top to bottom. Make sure the cut is smooth and flat. Use a paintbrush to apply the paint evenly over the cut side of the apple.
2. With the apple half, cut side down, stamp the surface of the object you want to decorate. The more times you stamp, the less vivid the paint will be, so reapply paint, or use the other half.
3. Use additional apple halves to print with different colors, if desired. To draw stems or leaves, use black or green markers or paint.
This project was super easy to do and the perfect craft for a toddler to help with. Waverley is excited about her new lunchbag to bring to school and had so much fun painting. She thought it was just the silliest thing to paint apples! She is at the perfect age to start painting crafts with and I am eager to see where her creative juices take us next!
This quick and simple DIY project reminded me that crafts don’t have to be time-consuming or complicated. They can be as simple as using a piece of fruit as a stamp for a fun activity at home with kids. These basic products– just apples, paint, and Lay’s Kettle Cooked Chips– were all we needed to jumpstart our back to school routine for a fall and winter full of more DIY projects and toddler crafts galore.
