On Sunday evening I was texting with my best friend about the usual tidbits of life. Her husband was scheduled to be out of town for 10 days and I casually mentioned she should “pop on up to Alaska for a visit” while he is away. Well, less than 48 hours later her flight was booked, the baby gear details were sorted out, and I was thrilled for company. Impromptu visits carry a unique and special aura, don’t you think? The whirlwind of planning, the can-do attitude, and luxury of booking a ticket and just leaving are exciting and invigorating. We’ll be kept plenty busy while they’re here corralling a nearly 3 year-old, an 11 month-old, and a 15 month-old. I hope that Anchorage weather cooperates and provides a snowy winter wonderland for them, or at least a peek at the Northern Lights.
I’ll likely be a little quiet for the next few days to fully soak up their company and just wanted to let y’all know I haven’t abandoned you! If there’s a place you want to go this weekend, take a cue from my friend and just do it. Make your own spontaneous visit and explore a new place. Create new memories. Visit a friend or family member. You won’t regret it!
