I’ve flown with Waverley quite a few times now and finally feel I’ve mastered the perfect carry-on pack list. It’s taken several attempts of packing way too much (three bottles of milk) or way too little (one diaper) to get it right. This past trip I left my diaper bag at home and chose to bring a weekender tote; the extra room was extremely useful and made me question why I resisted a larger carry-on for so long, especially when I refuse to carry more than one bag on the plane. Although my diaper bag is large, it certainly couldn’t comfortably fit everything I needed and inevitably spilled all of its contents onto the airplane floor. Also, huge thanks to my sister-in-law who sent me to the airport with snacks! Apparently I am delusional that Waverley is still young enough that breast milk is sufficient and entertaining enough.
So, you’ll definitely need a super cute baby (sorry this one is taken) who now likes to roll around and steal my props. I still bring this nursing cover around because she’s more likely to enjoy a beverage straight from the source and it makes me feel weird when TSA tests the milk in bottles. Her favorite small toys are obviously essential (Sophie la Girafe, chewbeads {the girl has three teeth coming in}, and a good book, naturally). Easy to travel snacks are now mandatory (Puffs, a banana, and water) as are her “specials”, which are her favorite cozies that are required for any sleep (a bunny blanket, stuffed baby, and her favorite blanket). Wipes and more wipes. I think one diaper per an hour of the flight is safe, so now I pack three because, you just never know when a blowout may strike. Something for mama: lotion and lip balm. A baby carrier is a must: don’t even think of lugging a 20+ pound meatball around the airport without one! Plus, being in the carrier is the only way Waverley took a nap during the flights. Thank you thank you thank you. This changing pad (which is also mentioned here) because the changing stations in airplanes are questionable. The bag! I really liked using the Lo and Sons Catalina. The bottom compartment was perfect for holding the changing pad, diapers, and wipes so they were out of my way yet easy to access in cramped quarters. Oh hey, don’t forget your wallet.
