Well, Waverley’s first birthday and party has come and gone. I still cannot fathom I have a one year-old little person! Her party was a blast and I am grateful it was held in Oregon so many of our friends and family could attend. My brother and his lovely wife graciously offered up their home, which sits on several acres nestled in a small town in the Willamette Valley. It was the perfect location for a fall birthday, however, it was hardly fall weather at all! I envisioned a crisp fall day and it ended up being in the low 80s. Sheesh. Despite the heat wave, the rest of the day went (mostly!) according to plan. I hoped for a rustic yet feminine fall soirée befitting a little lady filled with white pumpkins, small florals à la Liberty of London, muted fall tones of peach and pink, and tons of flowers. My vision first came to life with the invitations (designed by Printerette Press) when the decor was just a jumble of ideas in my mind. They were exactly what I imagined.
I was so fortunate to have friends and family chip in to help as well: the flowers were supplied by my friend’s mother’s garden, the cake stands were loaned from another friend (leftover from her darling wedding), and my dear sister-in-law did as much work as if it were own daughter’s birthday party. The mommas ran errands, like picking up three dozen fresh pumpkin doughnuts from a quaint little country store. Oh and Nate made 100 kabobs! Bless them, huh! Waverley thoroughly enjoyed her first bites of cake after only a slight minute of trepidation. Meanwhile I enjoyed apple cider mimosas (are those a thing? Because they absolutely should be.) and soaked up time celebrating my little babe and her first year of life. I may or may not have teared up when we sang to her.
